I've read many accounts about that F-111 raid over Tripoli too, and you're right - that last ship didn't stand much of a chance. On the other hand, they were expecting to lose up to five of the 20 aircraft (18 x F-111F, 2 x EF-111A) that launched, so to lose just one is bettere than expected.

One of the post strike SR-71 missions was tasked to look for the wreckage. They eventually found out that it had crashed in the ocean just off the beach, because the 'take' from the 'SR' showed a barge and crane surrounded by other boats hauling up wreckage about 14 hours after the strike.

That mission is one of the greatest ever flown when you consider the logistics involved, and how much time they spent in their aircraft (seven hours & 4 x AARs) even before they had to drop any bombs, let alone the total time of nearly 15 hours.

Hey Richard - I bet Tornados couldn't have done that...!!!

P.S. We don't call then Ardvaarks in Australia - they're called 'Pigs'.
