Some of the Pilots on the Tripoli raid still have a rant on about the French denying access to cross their airspace and forcing the UK based Vaark strike force to fly southwest to Gibralta and then making a left turn into the Med. That's what necessitated the many AAR's. It was a hellova mission.

The Toronados in Desert Storm still deserve a special place in the war for their unsung and super-risky runway interdiction mission that they alone did the best job possible. The high loss rate was indicative of a mission that had them fly straight down a hostile runway dispensing bomblets at a optimum altitude for MANPADs, AAA, small arms, and well thrown rocks. My hat goes off the the RAF for doing that down and dirty job so well, knowing that not all the blokes launched would be back at the Mess that night.
