Rich I thought the mist sprays were designed for anti-NBC contamination purposes, and it was only discovered by accident that they had anti-IR benefits as well. I agree that the DE boats are very quiet, but they have the huge disadvantage of having surface to breath - the SSNs don't have to surface for as long as the food for the crew holds out! I don't believe we'll see the advanced carrier designs that were being toutted recently - too costly. A fairly conventional hull design with advanced propulsion and active stealth systems is far more likely, perhaps with a smaller blended island. The 'Akula' certainly was a beast, but they suffered badly from poor shielding and high loss rates - 7 of 17 I think! The 'Zian' is a piece of crap, that one in the Taiwan Strait got real lucky in a tight area with lots of other shipping nearby. Wouldn't happen again I bet. The Chinese are getting new build 'Kilos' now - not a blue water sub, but still a huge threat around Taiwan and the Spratly's! Magoo
