Das Boot, is a way cool movie. Since it is totally forbidden to even a hint at a positive ending in a German WWII war plot, the movie was spoiled by the fact that you knew that their destruction was certain. Beyond that lock, the movie was fascinating. If you get a chance to see the movie, take note at the one continous shot that follows a crew member from one end of the boat to the other during a crash dive sequence. If you are interested on how they did it, just let me know. From a filmmaker's point of view, it really was a neat shot. I haven't seen the latest sub picture, but it looks like with movies like "Red October", "Crimson Tide", and "U-571", Hollywood still sees some money to be made in submarine movies.
