Great detective work, thanks for the link, Magoo. Excellent article about Area 51, that, except for the runway, gets most of the facts right.
The sat. image, judging from the name a51-1994.jpg, appears to be from 1994. In newer images (1996 and later) you would see an additional large black water tank behind the four older tanks on the mountainslope SW of the base. Also, there is considerable construction activity going on south of the base.
