OK, once and for all (why don't people use the search facility Hank?)...

The only secret stuff going on at Pine Gap is a joint communications facility relaying satellite imagery and funky stuff like that. You can walk right up to the fence at Pine Gap and be only a few hundred yards from the main antenna domes.

There is no airbase or runway anywhere near Pine Gap - the nearest is the local airport about 20 miles away at Alice Springs which is a town of more than 20,000 people.

Pine Gap is at 23°47'57.92"S, 133°44'17.02"E on Google Earth, and Alice Springs is ENE of there.

Some UAV testing is being done at Woomera which is about 500 miles south of Alice Springs in South Ausralia, mainly for BAE Systems and the Australian DSTO.

Woomera is at 31° 8'44.56"S, 136°48'58.64"E.
