Pacific Business News (Honolulu) - 9:48 AM HAST Wednesday, February 14, 2007:

"The deployment of F-22A Raptors from Hawaii to Japan has been delayed by the discovery of a navigation system problem, Hickam Air Force Base said Tuesday.

The 13th Air Force Command at Hickam said Raptors were on their way to Kadena Air Base in Japan over the weekend when "a software issue" affecting their navigation systems was discovered. All aircraft returned to Hickam.

F-22A engineers and maintenance personnel are working "to update the software," Hickam said in a press release. The base said the deployment was likely to resume "within the next several days."

"This is a minor issue," said Lt. Gen. Chip Utterback, 13th Air Force Commander. "The aircraft will not depart until we are confident there are no further issues with the navigation system."

Twelve Raptors and more than 250 personnel are involved in the deployment. They are from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia."
