First, Running plates is now considered normal everyday activity for most PDs anymore, like when there at a traffic light or whatever, there just trolling the ether for whatever they can find, warrants, ficticious plates, etc. Now that doesn't mean that it is legal. I'm told by an attorney that if you 'know' that your plate was run for no apparant reason and you know the car number and so on, that you should report it to the aclu, and if your brave enough, to the police department themselves and the state highway patrol, oh yea, and your state rep.

Second, Do any of you really think that you could find out from what database and who is running your plates.
They could be going through a couple of links to get their info, it could be very blind.

Third, If you feel that you want to alter your plates and or the info on your rental car, than go for it, just remember, you are off the pavement, not off terrafirma, you still need legal registration, and if you are caught driving at all, that is a punisable offense. And as for trying to do a rental with the wrong ID, just remember, that to is punishable, not only by the state, but you might never get to rent that convertable in the southwest or anywhere again.

Fourth, On the other hand, go ahead and ask that friend at the DMV, go ahead, or mention again that you got to play with an MDT, those 'are' punishable too.
By many laws the user and or terminal are not to be used for unofficial purposes. There are many accounts of employees being rerimanded or fired and charged with this kind of abuse, so, go ahead and implicate your friends, and for that matter, your selves, not like anybody is reading this.
