There is a very good possibility that the reason why this program got the funding is because it serves more than the single, heavy bombing role that is publicized. In an environment where THAT much money could sustain dozens of other VERY important programs, we should ask what does the B2 offer that makes it THAT valuable? Does it have a role supporting some of the black projects (hypersonic vehicles,UAVs,ASAT) that has been yet disclosed? Does it fill a gap left by one or more of other platforms that have been canned? Does the B2 have a ELINT or intel gathering role we don't know about? Honestly, they have got us just looking at its ability to place a bomb on a bad guy forehead halfway across the globe, and if so why spend another kabillion on it when we are fresh out of enemies? Obviously the B2 has a bigger role than we know in the blended air and space over the battlespace.
