Cynicism based on reality is still a generalization, however there are many instances where the better product was ignored; the original Flying wing (OK not viable then because it needed a computer to maintain its stability and computers were still decades away) the Avro CF-105 Arrow (yes, Canadian but a political victim all the same) and the Osprey (that was a magnificent flying machine until hacked, cut and butchered to fit). Nice write up Mark, keep that information coming - when President Eisenhower (for you young lurkers who said "whooo?" - Google the name) said to guard against the "military-Industrial Complex" he knew all too well, and he was a knowledgeable warrior.
