Thanks Peter! I also found this book: Columbia, final voyage: the last flight of NASA's first space shuttle, by Philip Chien. Page 179, last paragraph -- ". . . a location of 37.44 north and 114.00 west . . . "just over the Nevada-Utah border . . . the Cougar Canyon area a little to the southeast of Beaver Dam State Park." Portions are available online at: http://tinyurl.com/6pgqavq Also found the following phone number on a NASA website. Not sure if it's still active or not, but next spring I think I'll point our RV toward Beaver Dam State Park and do some hiking around there. Joe Columbia Recovery Office at (866) 446-6603
