Hmm, I wonder if the cammo incident was related to the noise? They normally don't do that, and sometimes even take side roads to avoid meeting tourists on GL Rd. Also, in all my time out there I have never heard anything like what you describe. Maybe it was something that wasn't supposed to happen, and they were reacting? Could it have been some kind of explosion? Of course this is pure speculation.
How long was it between the noise and the cammo passing you? Are you sure it was a cammo vehicle (type, color, license plate?), or could it have been one of the civilian contractors driving home? They drive mostly white or sand colored pickups, some with gov't plates.
