This is quite an old story, forgive me if I get some details wrong.
During the lawsuit about the cancellation of the A-12 Avenger II, General Dynamics claimed that some cost overruns had occured because they hadn't been given access to other companies' research and had to basically re-invent stealth. This claim was dismissed though, because the judge said that they had been involved (and most probably got paid for) in another stealth project earlier on.
Decades later, I still wonder what that earlier project was.
