Hi Smythers, Sometime ago you left this post here on this forum: Hmm... makes me wonder... Was it's initial mission something else and not related just to research efforts - The Boeing's ICE? Heard the YF-24 was a part of a fly-off that took place right after ATF program and that it was not USAF program. Could you hint or elaborate on it?
"The YF-24 project was akin to an advanced manned version of Rockwell HiMAT, a lego-like aircraft with varied bits added / removed / adapted to suit needs. It was Boeing's baby and part of their ICE work, and much of todays advanced thrust vectoring and tail-less work wouldn't have even been possible without it - 2D, 3D, unique shaped nozzles, all moving surfaces, adapted strakes - all of it went into the tunnel and elsewhere for testing."
