There was a flurry of action last month before Red Flag 22-2 kicked off with several sightings of F-18’s, F-35’s and F-22’s going thru Starwars Canyon. That action was short lived and has gone back to non-existent traffic at the canyon. Even the pilots flying in Panamint were confused with several asking Joshua Control if the canyon was open, each time Control replying with an exasperated No. Last but not least, is Trona Wildrose Rd at Surprise Canyon (36.1690706, -117.3003109) military aircraft in the sidewinder low level route sometimes line up with Trona Wildrose Rd passing 200ft overhead at 500KTS. Thunderbirds #7 likes to visit this area regularly for training. Make sure you have a scanner with you, going out without one is almost a waste of time. Good luck! Take a lot of patience with you and don’t forget to support the locals, they really need as much support as they can get out there right now. The milkshakes at Trails Drive In in the town of Trona are amazing after a long day of spotting! Good luck and happy hunting.
There are still some great spots out there to see jets in the low level with Point Delta being the most consistent. Point Delta is on the North east side of Owens Lake (36.5893397, -117.9853873)
Point Juliet in Panamint Valley is also another area that’s frequented by jets, parking in the middle of the Dog Bone dry lake in Panamint is usually decent (36.3448333, -117.3513333)
