What often gets overlooked in a normal GS (ground-stop) scenario for weather and/or traffic volume, there are several aircraft enroute to destination. Those flights continue to destination. 9/11 was a unique exception in that airborne flights were ordered to divert and land at the nearest suitable airport. I understand yesterday's GS was only 7-minutes in duration.
