Good idea not to beat up your Mustang on the Rachel area roads (or your bud's pickup). More than once I feared for the rental SUV I was driving. Keep in touch with us at DLR, so you can ride with one of us to the Tikaboo hike start (read the trip reports to get an idea about the measures taken just to get the group from the Inn to the hike start at the foot of Tikaboo). It'd be great to have you join us, sounds like you'd be the expert at roughing it, and having the right gear for the hike, so please consider making it to Rachel. The high desert is great, and the hike, while a challenge, is fun (once you get to the summit).
