Try this -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- by Airman 1st Class Oleksandra G. Manko 8/31/2007 - NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- An Air Force firepower demonstration will take place at 12:40 p.m. Sept. 14 at Point Bravo, located north of Las Vegas, off U.S. Highway 95. The events will consist of a 20-minute demonstration by the Ground Combat Training Squadron simulating desert warfare that Airmen face in Iraq and Afghanistan, and an hour-long flying demonstration. Over a dozen different aircraft will demonstrate the combat capabilities of the Air Force using live munitions following a war scenario, from initial attack of an enemy country -- kicking down the door -- to total air dominance and support of ground forces. While the bombs will be dropped three miles away from the bleachers, most of the aircraft will make a camera pass close to the audience. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and binoculars. A-10 Warthogs and HH-60G rescue helicopters will be flying within a few hundred yards of the spectators. The Friday show will be preceded by a "dress rehearsal" Sept. 13, during which the aircraft will be dropping live bombs as well. Anyone with a DOD ID card can attend the rehearsal and are encouraged to do so. Vehicle passes and seating tickets will be required to attend the actual demonstration on Sept. 14. Distribution of tickets is left up to wing leadership. Airmen who choose to ride the provided buses from Nellis to Point Bravo will receive reserved seating. Those wishing to attend the Sept. 13 rehearsal must be at Point Bravo by 3 p.m. Those attending the Sept. 14 show have to arrive by noon. No vehicles will be allowed to drive out to the viewing area once the demo starts. Point Bravo is a remote dusty desert site with extreme temperature variations and no shade. There are limited water, seating and restroom facilities; therefore, attendees are encouraged to bring water (no glass containers), sunglasses, sunscreen and hats. The demo is not recommended for children under 12 due to heat and extreme graphic violence. It takes about 50 minutes to drive to Point Bravo from Nellis. Go North on U.S. Highway 95 past the Kyle Canyon and Lee Canyon turnoffs. Drivers will see two state prisons located next to each other on the left side of the road. There is a small complex on the right side of the highway, consisting of a few brick buildings and antennas. This is Point Bravo. For residents of Las Vegas, most local TV stations will feature highlights of the firepower demonstration on their Friday evening newscasts. 99 ABW/PA Firepower demonstration to highlight Air Force power Tried and true to Air Force blue: A leader remembered Fairy godmother lands at Nellis in time for the Ball Med Group activates two new squadrons Nellis set to celebrate 60th on Vegas Strip Nellis, Creech Airmen make staff sergeant Nitrates are probable cause of death for wild horses on test range George Lopez Visits Nellis Airmen and Families Predeployment preparations
