Rocket has a good post here. Re-read it, BUT, a word or two of CAUTION.

First, FORGET altogether ANY and ALL politics, iregardless of party affliation.

Second, you're INCORRECT regarding the importance of LONG-RANGE versus SHORT-RANGE, *because* WE are NOW in CONTINUAL process of FOWARD-DEPLOYMENT of our forces AND equipment GLOBALLY. Forward-deployed we can move to TARGET quicker. We may be REDUCING the SIZE of forces, BUT we are equipping them to be MULTI-TASKed.
NO LONGER can we TOLERATE accepting members into the armed forces, just to "mark time and collect a paycheck" as in years past. You will hear a lot of
gum-banging about THIS issue, not only in the coming months, but in the next year or two, as we revamp how we utilize our HUMAN RESOURCES. If WE can't fully utilize them, then its OUT, period.

FOCUS *carefully* on the comments written in THIS post
by Rocket, especially on the subject of NEURAL NET CONTROL SYSTEMS. (Yes, PLURAL).... THIS is *not* new.
We've been working on this potential for the last 20 years! The helmets used by Stealth pilots can attest
to a form of this technology in CURRENT use.

In the global realignment of new potential threats,
the PACIFIC NORTHWEST will play an increasing important role in the ensuing years ahead.

A51, Nellis, Holloman, Mountain Home, Cheyenne Mountain
and the like will continue to be critically important pieces of the whole, especially when WE do NOT have
ANY technology currently IN PLACE to avoid diasters of
long-range INBOUND ICBMs, despite Cheyenne Mountain's
AEROSPACE warning systems. Although our enemies today's "weapon of choice" appears to be URBAN-Terrorism.

The "Quick-Fix" ANSWER is better FORWARD-DEPLOYMENT of Multi-Tasked Specialized troops and equipment for shorter-time interdiction.
