I've stayed at the Shady and the Hot Springs in Caliente and prefer the Shady. It is a couple of dollars more a night than the Hot Springs but the rooms are much nicer. Both are clean. If the Meadow Valley is the one I think it is, they only accept cash so I didn't try them. There is nowhere in town to escape the train noise but it isn't that bad.
