I heard that the 'U' originally stood for 'Utility'. The '2' was because it was the 2nd aircraft to use that prefix. (I think the U-1 was the original Cessna 'Bird Dog', later changed to O-1, 'O' being for 'Observation'). The aircraft was given the 'U' designation in order to not arouse suspicion. Magoo
