Border incident on Groom Lake Road

I have just returned from a trip to Rachael and the Groom Lake Road entrance.

On my way in about a mile from the border there was a frenchman having a problem changing a tire on a large suv so I stopped to help. He told me in broken english that he had driven past the signs about a quarter mile and that a cammo dude (my description) came off the hill in a white jeep cherokee and another in a ford pickup came around the curve and blocked the road.

They had him identify himself and told him he had 30 seconds to get on the other side of the border or he would be taken in to custody. While I was helping him with the tire I noticed that he had what looked like a studio quality video camera, and several 35mm cameras with very long lenses, at least 1000mm.

I have never talked to anyone that has had a confrontation with any of the border security and was under the impression that you werent given any options. I thought that you were held for the sheriff and were turned over to him for further disposition. Was he feeding me a line or is it possible that this was fact?
