Thanks for the post, Magoo. I once heard an inadvertent violation of Groom airspace ("the box") by a Red Flag pilot live on my scanner. He got yelled at by his leader, then by "airboss", and when the poor disoriented guy could not get his behind out of the box in time was ordered to abort and RTB (return to base, Nellis AFB) immediately. I can only imagine that he got yelled at there some more. No information on whether he was suspended from the rest of Red Flag.
Also, on the first day of Red Flag, usually around 10 in the morning on a Monday, you can listen to the orientation run. A local pilot shows the foreign Red Flag pilots around, and you can hear references to Bald Mtn. as a landmark, and usually immediately after that something that goes like this: "You see the base by the dry lakebed at 9 o'clock? That is not there." No further mention of Groom or the box after that.
