Groom 'Box'

Dear all

In a recent issue of 'Air Forces Monthly' (with Mirage 2000-5 on cover), there is an article on the Chilean Air Force at Red Flag (last few pages of mag). One paraphrased statement in the article says that 'If the Groom Lake airspace is violated, it may mean an immediate suspension from the exercise, or even a return to home base.'

A friend of mine who attended Red Flag back in the early 80's said that even then the 'box' was to not be overflown, and this was stressed to them in no uncertain terms in pre-mission briefs. That would have been about the time the F-117 was just coming on line at Groom before moving to TTR. I'm going to try to get some more info out of him tomorrow night over a few (!) beers.

Bye y'all

Magoo
