Congratulations, it appears that you found an error in the USGS maps (on which the Range Chart in that area is based). When you look at the 1:100 000 USGS topo map of the "Timpahute Range", you see the same fork, but it shows the south branch as the main road. The north fork leads straight west into the restricted area. In actuality the main road leads straight west to the guard shack, and the road branching off to the north leads back to Hwy 375, north of Rachel. That road is shown in the USGS map, but in a wrong position. I am not in Rachel right now and am writing this from memory, so no guarantees. I'll check it out and post an update when I get out there again in early April.
