I did an exchange program with the RAF some years back and did some gliding at RAF Spitalgate. Any word if that is still open? It was close to Nottingham, and had the Gliding Centre and a RAF Womens' training detachment there. We flew open cockpit two seaters, mostly tandem, and were ground-cable launched. One of the guys was actually hit by a LandRover as he was landing and Cat.5'd the A/C. I was airborne and watched the whole thing. When I landed, I ran over to the thoroughly wrecked wood and canvas glider and cut the RAF insignia out of the wing. I've got that hanging in my den.
