I was actually watching the Challenger launch from some distance away when I witnessed it blow up. The crippling aftermath left NASA with a new edict of making it a safe launch instead of a scheduled launch. Much was said and done about publically correcting a perceived competency issue. The silence is defening about the Mars failures, especially since the admitted reason of one was a conversion error. You'd think they would be concerned with their image. It seems NASA went from "the right stuff" to Forrest Gump. Or something else more sinister.
