Recently NASA successfully inserted a probe into close orbit around an asteroid. It doesn't get much more difficult than that. But NASA can't seem to get a probe to monitior Mars without it crashing into the planet or inexplicably disappearing. If I was a conspiracy buff, I'd have to say that the dissimilarities in the successes of the two NASA projects bears close examination. Either we have some real different project managers, or something else is driving the issue.
