On September 19, the leader of the free world reauthorized Groom Lake's exemption from the disclosure of classified information under environmental laws by issuing Presidential Determination No. 2000-30. The significance of this annual authorization is probably overrated. It would seem that even absent this express exemption the Air Force need only assert the state secrets privilege to make would-be plaintiffs magically disappear.
