SOCOM and SpecWar has training facilities and places they train all over the country. Civilian Nuclear Power plants have facilities utilized by certain Military SpecWar groups (I know, I had dinner with a bunch of them at their on-site location a few months ago) so the possiblity of having the d-boys at Groom Lake is very possible. They've got the clearances needed to be there, and they know how to keep their mouths shut. Since desert training can be done at other well-established training facilities, we should ask if Det. D is there, what are they training on? Quite possibly since tactical UAV's are becoming so popular, maybe they are being checked out on how to utilize them in a covert manner, after being inserted inside a hostile or unfriendly country. Since some are small as pigeons, and undetectable at night, the mini-UAV's could easily be the answer to monitoring a hostile hard target without having to change the orbit of a RECONSAT or launch a intercontinential drone. It all goes back to cost. Just a thought like you asked for.
