I just wanted to second what Steve has said. He speaks the truth.
I work with a friend of the Freeman family, and there is much
more to this story than is generally known. Since Freeman is
doing a book, I won't spill any beans. But the man has
been deep into the area, can prove it, and utterly kills
Lazar's story. He never entered the Groom "box", but
went damn near everywhere else. As I said, there is more to the story.

As an aside, I should mention that contrary to public perception,
the security around the NTS is extremely loose. Anyone
determined to, can simply walk in. Freeman is a prime example (I
suspect there were some firings after his story was printed).
The NTS folks rely heavily on the public thinking the border
is tight and heavily patrolled, but it's not. I have a strong
hunch that is also the case with Groom. Of course it's not a
theory I'm interested in testing....
