As the MIG was cooling off, I understand the Base Commander, and Wing Commander had already started to pack their stuff. The list of Officers sacked for that was indeed long. BTW, when the MIG was returned to Cuban hands it was left fully fuelled on the ramp when the Cuban Air Force representatives arrived. They proceeded to drain every bit of fuel out of the MIG, re-fuel it with the JP-3 that they brought, and flew it away. The MIG was covered with hundreds of Air Force stickers and Stencilled-on unit patched. It looked like a billboard. Boy were the Cubans pissed.
