I've paid to have land surveyed via satellite and it's relatively cheap, like $2000 for 400 acres at 2 meter contours. Much cheaper than paying to do it by hand. With whom do you contract to get satellite photos? Depending on what the contract looks like, you could form a small group of people and split the cost.
