I have the http://www.desertsecrets.com/bestpan.html on my screen at the moment, and I'm not sure if I see a VOR on the screen or not. Maybe the pointy structure on the 9th photo from the left is a VOR, but it doesn't have the bowling pin appearance of a normal VOR, which you can see on their http://www.desertsecrets.com/ttrpan1.html.

Incidentally, I've done some reading on taking photos through haze and the tips here (http://www.desertsecrets.com/phototips.html) are pretty good. Looking at this page plus kodak data, the extended red B&W film plus red filter looks like the way to take photos of these sites unless the conditions are optimal.

Something I might try is getting Kodak T400 film. It's not as good as the extended red film, but it can be processed in c-41 chemicals, i.e. just take it to your 1 hour lab.
