I've never flown on the Concorde (too $$$ for me), but I've had the pleasure of seeing it several times at JFK airport. Beautiful aircraft, a real head-turner. Most people probably don't remember that the US once had an SST program. The project was killed in 1971 by the US Congress and environmentalists. Now it seems that Boeing is about to lose it's position at the #1 manufacturer of commercial aircraft to Airbus (if it hasn't already). By coincidence, I was down in Florida in 1998 and happened upon the remains of the Boeing 2707 SST mockup. It is located in a junkyard just south of the Kennedy Space Center. I can't help thinking that there is something symbolic about
that......
