These are situations where even the cheapest GPS comes in handy since you can give a waypoint and say "Do not exceed this point else you will be well ventilated (in theory). Now that selective availability is history even a $70 GPS is pretty good. One that can average the reading is a bit better. [Office Depot was selling Garmin GPS12XL's for $100 two weeks ago.]
