There are lots of rumors, but unfortunately no one outside the base really knows what they are working on. From my observations I would assume that at least one of their projects involves radar counter measures.
The same goes for contamination of the land around Groom Lake with toxic waste.
However, it is known that much of the NTS is contaminated with radiation, which slowly is making its way into the ground water. There are several newspaper articles on that subject in our Area 51 Info section.
