I read that during the hacker convention held in Vegas (Def con), they like to head up to Rachel and release a balloon with Al foil on it or perhaps just connected to it. It shows up on the radar and they send planes to investigate. The article was in the SJ Mercury news a few years ago. http://www.defcon.org/
Looks like the conference is at the end of July. If you are in the area, I bet it is fun.
