There are a number of ways to go east from the main Silverbow Road. The one I gave was, at the time, in good shape, and you could make the cut over to the east far before you would be visible to any TTR personnel (and you also lose the main road dust plume). That was a prime consideration, at that time.

Use whatever route works. The point of the original directions was to be able to get in to a really nice vantage point, completely undetected. They weren't meant as any sort of guide, but eventually they slipped out and have become that. But it's a very scenic spot, with a great vista. It's also high enough up to be of a reasonable temperature even in summer.
