Hey Jim

Will get to your website as soon as I can - looking forward to it!

As for a navalised F-22 or similar being required, you're probably right there. The A-12 was cancelled nine years ago now, and they haven't come close to replicating its range and LO features with the F/A-18E!. The F-14s days are numbered too - there are lots of F-14As in the boneyard now, and the F-14B/Ds are due to be gone by about 2007 unless they receive a massive airframe and avionics upgrade.

That will leave just the late build F/A-18Cs and F/A-18E in the attack and fighter roles until something else can come along. Whether the JSF ever sees service is still debatable too, but don't expect to see them of a carrier's deck in squadron strength before 2010!The USN is certainly not the force it was in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

And yes, I am a civilian, but not a 'specialist' as such, just a mad enthusiast and a freelance aviation writer on the side. Got alot of friends contacts in the RAAF and USAF. The F-22N concept was published in a magazine or a website somewhere years go, but as far as I know, wasn't proceeded with. Perhaps Richard Cliff or SWK knows more...?

Keep the 'real' English coming mate! (he he he)

Magoo
