If the jet you saw was a B-52 then it would of had 8 engines in 8 nacelles on 4 pylons looking like 4 engines.

You cant mis-identify a B-52....its got a very very long wing span swept back unlike a normal large jet aircraft. Its got a distinct 'wine' to it also unlike a normal jet of that size and to say the least, they smoke like a steam train except when at altitude and cruising when ive seen them with no smoke at all.

Just had soem Buffs fly over me a few times the other day doing 14hr sorties...got some photos also of them unfortunately at medium altitude.
When Allied force was starting and throughout, on the first day i had all 8 Buffs fly over loaded with CALCM's smoking like merry hell at 12,000 ft with one having an emergency which came back overhead at 4000ft just after dumping fuel....i could smell it! at night! VERY LOUD!

Sounds like you had a nice time.
