I assume the book you read was called 'Skunkworks' by Ben Rich. He should know as he succeeded Kelly Johnson as the head of the Lockheed Skunkworks, and apart from Johnson himself, is possibly one of the greatest thermodynamisists ever! He designed the intake and bypass system for the J-58 engines on the A-12 and SR-71, as well as the intakes for the U-2.

A source who helped design the Northrop B-2 has also confirmed to me that the word 'Aurora' was used in conjunction at the ATB project definition and competiton stage from 1979 to 1985, but was deleted once the competiton winner (from Northrop) was selected in 1986. This was also confirmed by the current head of the Lockheed advanced projects team, when interviewed for a Discovery Channel special early last year.
