The actual photos taken of helos around the base show they are the MH-60 varaiant, pretty much the typical Army version. BTW the USAF's Pave Hawks and Night Hawks, once the backbone of the Air Forces' Spec Ops support (with the Pave Lows) have all been given to the CSAR squadrons after the 55th was disbanded. That leaves the Army's 106th SOAR, and some Navy Reserve assets to handle the Spec Ops "customers". I was photographing an (unnamed) USN Reserve helo unit that was supporting a SEAL insertion when the pilot told the rappeling SEALs that they were 50ft off the ground, when they were only 30ft. The first guy out the door did a fast Austrailian Rappel to 40ft. Or tried to. One broken nose later, the SEALs really wanted to talk to the pilot. That never happened with the 55th.

One other reason to truck out the helo is that would be one less curious AF transport crew to land at the base. Regular USAF is probably as welcome at that base as much as one of us would be. They probably would have to undergo the battery of paperwork and background checks that seems to be the rule. It would be definitely cheaper to truck it out. One thing though, why the back gate? Why not truck it through the usual route that goes through to Nellis?
