Guys

Let's just stop and think logistics here for a moment. How much do you think it would costs to divert a C-5 or C-17 to Groom especially to take out one disabled Blackhawk, when a low loader at a total cost of a few hundred dollars only would suffice?

Even if transport aircraft were flying in and out on a regular basis, the fuel required to carry the Blackhawk and the cost of diverting to Nellis or wherever it was headed would be more than the cost of trucking it out. An outgoing C-17 or C-5 would most likely be headed back to Palmdale or Edwards, or one of their home stations, which is not likely to be the same place the Blackhawk is headed.

I'd also be very careful about using the MH-60 'Pave Hawk' designation... these are rare birds indeed. The Blackhawk/s at Groom is more likely to be a CSAR HH-60 without the TFR and 'other' spedcial equipment. These still carry the FLIR and in-flight refueling probe, and look externally very similar to the MH-60.
