Females are certainly welcome in the area. I have just returned from two seperate trips to the last Red Flag. On both occasions I have encountered female travelers. If you feel uncomfortable exploring on your own go to the Inn and introduce yourself and Iam sure that their are people there that will be happy to help. By the way this would be for male travelers also that may not want to drive to the gates or hike alone.
Have fun and bring a camera.
