Maybe because I simply skimmed through the article, but not once did they say aliens did it. From what I did read, it seemed they were leaning towards some unknown earth phenomenon which is entirely possible.

And also just because "hoaxers" stepped forward and claimed to show how they did it, doesnt mean theyre the actual hoaxers. Could I not say I invented the lochness monster hoax and show a plastic dinosaur and say I built a large scale model of it and anchored it to the bottom?

I believe some crop circles are hoaxers but the more intricate ones that are so geometrically correct and the ones with all the stems having blown centers are done by an unknown earthly phenomenon.
