I hiked around Bandolier last year and you get very close to the "technical areas", but who knows what goes on in each area. There was an article about some of the trees near one of the technical areas being rather "hot" to the point where they closed off the area.

Bandolier is quite a nice park if you like to explore old Indian artifacts. They preserved a nice cliff dwelling about 4 miles from the visitors center than is worth checking out. You go up ladder after ladder after ladder until you get to the cave. It is hard to imagine someone rock climbing that same path on a daily basis.

Los Alamos has a museum, but it is off-site. It is your typical nuke museum (geiger counters and radioactive stuff to play with), but it also has a collection of historic papers regarding the initiation of the Manhattan Project and other bomb related stuff. They have a Fat Boy and another bomb model present. Also on display are the old cameras used to record the bomb blasts. To be honest, touring the NTS is an order of magnitude more interesting.
