I'm also told the F/A-18 experiences extreme vertical stab flutter at AoA above 60 degrees. The small fences that were retrofitted to all early F/A-18s were added to break up the airflow coming off the LERXs onto the vertical stabs, thus reducing the flutter, but it wasn't eliminated altogether.

Anyway, at the end of the day, such extreme manoeuvers have little tactical merit these days. Almost all future air combat involving these top of the line aircraft is going to be fought at BVR or long WVR ranges. Radar (F/A-22) and IRST systems (Typhoon, Su-27/37) are now smart enough to be able to not only identify whether an opposing aircraft is a friend or foe from 40+ miles out, but also to discrminate what type of aircraft it is. Plenty of time to pop off an AMRAAM or ASRAAM/AIM-9X and bug out before the other guy even knows you're there!
