Woman sues over 'alien' stunt

A teacher is suing a US TV channel after she was chased by an actor dressed as an alien on a Candid Camera-style show.
Kara Blanc, who is based in Los Angeles, claims she suffered severe emotional damage because of the prank, filmed in March 2002.

She filed her lawsuit against the Sci-Fi channel, the show's producers and actors Mathew Mertha and Travis Draft on Tuesday.

The actors told her they were driving her to "an exclusive Hollywood party at a desert resort" near Los Angeles.

But on the way, their car stalled on a remote road and the actors "feigned that they were being seriously physically injured or killed" by an "alien", the lawsuit said.

Mr Mertha and Mr Draft are alleged to have told Ms Blanc to run to a "dark, desert canyon area" to escape.

'Emotional distress'

Hidden cameras secretly recorded her reaction to the stunt.

Ms Blanc, who teaches dance, music and drama, claims she went to hospital several times for "physical injuries" and "severe emotional distress".

She is also an aspiring actress, who presented a mock-documentary film with Mr Draft.

Kat Stein, a spokeswoman for Sci-Fi - which is not connected with the UK channel of the same name - declined to comment on the case.

But she said the show, Scare Tactics, was all about "friends setting their friends up with a prank".

Future episodes include limousine passengers who are chased by "government agents" at Area 51, the top-secret US military base at the centre of many conspiracy stories.

The show also features campers who believe they have been attacked by mythical mountain creature Big Foot.
