Yes, in 1990, things were a little different there than now. In the summer of 1990, as Gary Schultz (my former colleague) mentioned in the chat, he was detained on Groom Lake Road , right near the Guard Shack, as he said, about 100 feet in front of it. He was then taken to the Guard Shack and was held there for about two hours during which time he was interrogated thoroughly by security personnel with berets, if I recall what Gary stated. After thorough questioning by the security personnel (who took all types of info on Gary) , they called the Lincoln County Sheriff Dept. and the Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to the Guard Shack.
Needless to say, Gary was throroughly reprimanded and finally was released, after two hours of interrogation, and was escorted by the Lincoln County Sheriffs back to his vehicle.
At that time, the penalty fee system was non-existent. Also Gary did not have to spend any time in County jail. It was about 3 months later that Gary received a letter from Washington,D.C., which he showed me, the wording of which is in the transcript. The letter looked real, the letter-head also looked real. Needless to say this did create a lot of controversy among the UFO community in Southern California at that time. I believe Gary still has that interesting letter, since he cherishes it as an unforgettable item. If the DLR readers and chatters are interested, I could ask Gary Schultz to come and join us in the chat again. Gary Schultz cannot type fast so I will have to go to his home in Santa Monica and type for him as he chats with you.
